In finishing her very successful "Premiere Exhibition" at The Green Schoolhouse Gallery in St. George Maine, which included her most recent oil paintings, Lynn Rita decided to find inspiration outside the landscapes of which she was so familiar. Recently traveling to Mexico, China, Thailand, and Japan has much inspired Lynn Rita's current artwork.
Her exhibition in Summer 2007 “Up Close” was an exhibition that represented the details in sights such as landscapes or objects that we may see every day and yet the details go unnoticed. Painted in her usual bright and boldly colorful palette are some of her favorite subjects, including flowers, still lives, creatures, and nature.
Lynn Rita has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehead State University, Morehead, Kentucky. Right out of college, Lynn Rita won her first art award at the Jenny Wiley State Parks Exhibition in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. For eight years, she was head of the art department at Scott High School in Kentucky. Besides painting and jurying art shows, she is the director of Gary Akers Gallery. Lynn Rita is the wife of artist Gary Akers and the mother of artist Ashley Akers.
Currently Lynn Rita is working on new oil paintings for her upcoming exhibition "Garden Life" at Tree's Place Gallery in Orleans, Cape Cod, Mass. July 19-24, 2008 which will feature a collection of new delightful and whimsical oil paintings.
